INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men's tennis will play two matches over the weekend beginning with a home match against Saint Louis on Friday (Feb. 1) beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club. The Jags will then head to South Bend, Ind., for a meeting with No. 13 Notre Dame at 5 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 3).
IUPUI is coming off of a 3-1 weekend that saw the Jaguars beat a Big Ten team for the first time in school history, taking down Michigan State, 4-2. Thanks to their strong performances as a duo, the freshman team of
Alex Jochim and
Colton Morehart were named Horizon League Men's Doubles Team of the Week after going 3-0 in the four matches, playing all four matches at No. 1.
Doubles has been strong for head coach Brandon Currie as Jochim and Morehart are 3-1 at No. 1 and the team of
Sean Bailey and
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono are 3-0 when playing in the No. 3 spot.
Mardanus-Budiono has been on a roll for the Jags, winning his last three singles matches, all at the No. 4 spot and holds a 3-1 singles record on the season. Bailey is currently riding a two-match winning streak at No. 2.
The matchup against Saint Louis will be a rematch of last season when the Billikens beat IUPUI in Saint Louis 4-0. Saint Louis is 0-2 to start the season having lost to Arkansas and Eastern Illinois.
IUPUI lost to Notre Dame 1-6 last season and will face another tough test as the Fighting Irish are 3-0 on the year with wins at Kentucky, against Vanderbilt and at Oklahoma.
