IUPUI (13-7, 7-2 Horizon) is riding a five-game winning streak after beating Green Bay 67-63 in overtime on Saturday (Jan. 26). The win was the first time a team had beaten Green Bay on its home court since Oakland did so in January of 2016.
Macee Williams was one of five Jaguars to reach double-figures, leading the team with 14 points and 14 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season.
Sydney Hall Katelyn O'Reilly and
Tamya Sims each poured in 12 points, while
Holly Hoopingarner added 10.
IUPUI was able to hold on to the win in overtime after missing five-of-six free throws in regulation as the Jags tried to close the game out. The Jags were helped by jumping out to an early 20-10 lead after the first quarter and at one point led by 11. Green Bay did manage to shut down the Jags, holding IUPUI to just 18 points in the second and third quarters as the Phoenix managed to take a one point lead.
The Jaguars will now turn their attention to Northern Kentucky to being the second half of conference play. The Norse enter the game with a 5-14 record but are coming off back-to-back wins against Detroit Mercy and Oakland.
In the first meeting of the season, IUPUI beat Northern Kentucky 70-48 as five Jaguars scored in double figures. The Jaguars jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead in the game and never looked back.
QUICK NOTES (full game notes)
Taking down the Phoenix
- IUPUI held Green Bay to just 20 first half points. That number is tied for the second-lowest point total allowed by IUPUI in a first half this season.
- With her first three-point attempt of the game, Sydney Hall became the all-time leader in three point attempts in school history, passing Muffy Murphy with 564.
- Williams tied a career-high with 14 free throw attempts, matching her performance against Wisconsin earlier this year.
- Sydney Hall hit four threes for the first time since Dec. 21 at Southern Illinois. Hall has now hit a three in 11-straight games and 17 of the 20 games for IUPUI this season.
- After hitting over .725 from the free throw line in the previous four games, IUPUI has now shot 60 percent or worse from the charity stripe in the last two games.
The Jags in Extra Time
- IUPUI played back-to-back overtime games for the second time this season. The Jags went to an extra frame against Southern Illinois (Dec. 21) and Wright State (Dec. 28), losing both contests.
- The Jaguars have played in a school record five overtime games this season.
- IUPUI has now won two-straight overtime games in the same season for the first time since 1995-96.
Road Warriors
- IUPIU set a Division I school record with 13 wins away from home last season going 13-3 outside of Indianapolis. It was the first time since the 2013-14 season that IUPUI had won double-digit road contests. The Jaguars have only had two seasons in their Division I era (1998-99) with 10+ road wins and four total seasons in program history (since 1975-76) with 10+ road wins. The school record for road wins in a season is 14 when IUPUI went 14-3 in 1989-90.
- The Jags are currently 6-4 away from the Jungle and are 3-1 in Horizon League play on the road.
Hall of Points
- Sydney Hall is the active leading scorer for IUPUI with 923 points. With another 77 points this season, Hall could become the 25th player in school history to reach the 1,000 career point mark.
- Hall is also the active leader in three-point shots made, having hit 196 in her career. Hall is now third all-time in school history and is 31 threes away from becoming the all-time three point shooter.
Magic Number 70
- Scoring 70 points is an important sign for the Jags under head coach Austin Parkinson. In Parkinson's first eight seasons, IUPUI is 69-13 when hitting the 70-point mark. In those 13 losses, the most points scored by the Jags in regulation was 74 points. If IUPUI scores 75 points in regulation, the Jags are 58-0 under Parkinson.
- The most points ever scored in a loss by the Jags under Parkinson was 83 in a 96-83 overtime loss to Miami (Ohio) in 2017.
- IUPUI had won its last ten games when scoring at least 70 points before losing to Southern Illinois. IUPUI has since won five-straight when hitting the 70 points mark. All five conference wins have come with IUPUI reaching 70 points.
