INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men's tennis will look to earn a spot in the Horizon League Men's Tennis Tournament with three matches over the weekend.
The Jags currently sit one game behind Wright State for the sixth and final spot in the tournament and will need to win at least two of their last three matches, depending on the results of Wright State's match against Detroit Mercy.
IUPUI will begin its weekend playing Green Bay in Milwaukee, Wis., on Friday morning to make up for the match that was postponed due to snow last weekend.
Following the match against the Phoenix, IUPUI will return home for its final two matches of the regular season. The Jags will begin the weekend taking on Cleveland State on Saturday (April 21) at 3:30 p.m., and will close out the season against Youngstown State on Sunday (April 22) at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at the West Indy Racquet Club.
Head coach Brandon Currie will look to get strong play from senior
David Beasley and freshman
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono who have been on a roll recently. Mardanus-Budiono has won five-straight matches and is 12-4 on the season. Beasley holds a 7-9 record overall and has won his last three matches.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY
The Phoenix come in to the match with Jags with a 9-9 overall record, a 3-2 conference record and have won three-straight matches. Green Bay will play UIC before playing IUPUI. The Phoenix have owned the upper part of the lineup, holding a 12-4 record at the No. 1 spot and a 12-5 record at the No. 2 spot.
SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE
Cleveland State is 13-10 overall and holds a 4-1 conference mark. The Vikings have won two-straight matches with wins over Wright State and Northern Kentucky. The first four spots in the lineup have records over .500 for Cleveland State with the No. 1 spot boasting a team-best 16-6 mark, led by Nico Mostardi, who is 12-3 at the top spot in the lineup.
SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Youngstown State is 9-10 on the season and 3-2 in Horizon League play. The Penguins have played the best at the back end of the lineup and have three different players who have a team-high 10 wins during the dual match part of its schedule.
