INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's basketball head coach #
Austin Parkinson# has announced the addition of Destiny Perkins for the 2018-19 season. Perkins, who is transferring from Akron, will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Perkins is a 5-6 guard from McCordsville, Ind., and played her high school basketball at Lawrence North High School where she was an Indiana All-Star.
"We are thrilled to have Destiny back home in Indianapolis and part of our program," said Parkinson. "She had an excellent first year at the college level, where she had some really big scoring games during conference play."
For her first season at Akron, Perkins appeared in 29 games and made two starts. Perkins averaged 7.7 points per game in the 2017-18 campaign on 35 percent shooting and hit 31.6 percent of her threes.
Perkins upped her average in conference play, scoring 9.6 per game and upped her shooting percentage to 38.5 percent. She finished as the second leading scorer for Akron in MAC play.
Perkins led the Zips in scoring four times, including a career-high 21 points against Miami (Ohio).
"Destiny is extremely quick and has an attacking mentality on both ends of the floor that Jag fans will love to see."
The Jags are coming off of a second-place finish in the Horizon League regular season in their first year in the league. IUPUI also made the WNIT for the third-straight season for the first time in school history.
