IUPUI TO TAKE ON NO. 7 OAKLAND AT 'MOTOR CITY MADNESS'

The Jaguars will face Oakland at 12 p.m on Saturday (March 3) in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship.

DETROIT, Mich. – IUPUI women's basketball will play its first game of the 2018 Little Caesar's Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship against Oakland on Saturday (March 3) with tip-off at Noon. The game can be seen on ESPN3 or fans can listen to Scott Agness on the call on IUPUIJags.com.
 
IUPUI enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after posting a 13-5 record in its first year in the Horizon League. The Jags will play the No. 7 seed Oakland after the Golden Grizzlies beat UIC in the first round, 80-46.
 
Led by 2018 Horizon League Coach of the Year #Austin Parkinson#, IUPUI will look to reach its first NCAA Tournament in school history at this year's Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship.
 
Parkinson will look to Horizon League Freshman of the Year #Macee Williams# and First Team All-League performer #Danielle Lawrence# to help the Jags navigate the bracket.
 
Williams, who was also named Second Team All-League and to the All-Freshman team, leads the Jags with 7.5 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 13.1 points per game. Williams is also tops in the conference, hitting 65.8 percent of her shots, which is fifth in the NCAA.
 
Lawrence is tied for third in the Horizon, averaging 17.5 points per game and has reached double-figure points in 14 straight games.
 
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
 
IUPUI took both meetings against Oakland this year by an average of 16 points. In the first meeting of the year, IUPUI overcame a 12-point first half deficit before pulling away in the second half. Williams posted a double-double to lead the Jags with a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Williams went an impressive 9-for-10 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.
 
Lawrence hit a team-high four threes and scored 19 points.
 
The Jags jumped out early on Oakland in Rochester in meeting two. IUPUI had a 12-point lead at the half and cruised to an 18-point win. Lawrence was in the middle of one of the hottest streaks of her career this game, scoring 29 points on 11-for-18 shooting. Williams posted another double-double, this time scoring 13 points and pulling down a career-high 14 rebounds.
 
The Jags also went to the free throw line 32 times in the second meeting against the Golden Grizzlies, making 21.
