Jags welcome Northern Kentucky to the Jungle looking to snap a four-game losing streak.

12/29/2018 4:58:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI finishes up its home stand to begin conference play looking to snap a four game losing streak as the Jags host Northern Kentucky on Sunday (Dec. 30). The Jags last game of 2018 will begin at 2 p.m. in the Jungle and will be on ESPN+ with Scott Agness on the play-by-play call.

IUPUI will look to rebound from a conference opening loss to Wright State in overtime with the Raiders coming out on top 78-75. The Jags had their chances in the game but Tamya Sims was stripped of the ball with the Jags down three to close out the game. Macee Williams led IUPUI in scoring for the ninth game of the year scoring 16 points with 11 coming after the halftime break.

Northern Kentucky comes in to the game having won its first game in 10 tries with a win over UIC in its conference opener. Taylor Clos led the way for the Norse with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting, hitting 4-for-6 beyond the arc.

The Norse are not a team used to playing high-scoring games as they rank 8th in the conference in points per game (56.3) and allow the third-fewest points (59.7).

QUICK NOTES (full game notes)
Jags vs. the Norse
  • IUPUI continues conference play against Northern Kentucky, a team the Jags swept the season series against last season. IUPUI has won three of the last four meetings against Northern Kentucky since losing the first 17 matchups in the series. All 17 losses were before both teams moved to Division I.
Overtime Woes
  • IUPUI's losing streak has reached four games after the Jaguars dropped its conference opener to Wright State on Friday in a 78-75 loss in overtime. It was the second-straight game that the Jags went to an extra period, the first time that has happened since 2002. IUPUI also lost both of those overtime games. The Jags have now lost five-straight games that went beyond regulation.
Defensive Struggles
  • The Jags have allowed at least 70 points during its four-game losing streak. The last time IUPUI lost three-straight games was from Nov. 28 to Dec. 7 in 2014. IUPUI had not allowed 70 or more points in four-straight games under Austin Parkinson. The Jags have not lost five-straight since Parkinson's second year (2011).
Conference Success
  • Under Austin Parkinson, IUPUI has had unprecedented conference success. In the last six seasons, IUPUI has never finished worse than third and has four second-place finishes. During that time, IUPUI has never had fewer than nine conference wins and has had at least 11 wins in the other five seasons. The Jags finished with a school-record 13 conference wins a season ago.
  • IUPUI has increased its conference win total in each of the last three seasons, winning 11 in 2015-16, 12 in 2016-17 and 13 in 2017-18. Before Austin Parkinson took over, IUPUI only had three double-digit wins in conference play and only one second place finish.
Season Low
  • IUPUI was held to season lows in points (40), shooting percentage (32.6), free throw made (7) and free throws attempted (10) as the Jags fell to Northern Iowa 53-40. It was the lowest scoring output for IUPUI since scoring 34 against Green Bay on Jan. 15, 2018. The Jags were also held to a season low 20 points in the second half.
  • In the loss to Northern Iowa, IUPUI did not finish with a 20+ point scorer for the first time all season. The streak of six games with a 20+ point scorer tied the longest streak for the Jags, set in 2003.
The Williams Way
  • Macee Williams continues to have a rock solid start to her sophomore year. The Veedersburg, Ind., native currently leads the Horizon League in points per game (19.8) and is second in rebounds per contest (8.7). Williams has also collected four double-doubles.
  • Williams is the only player in the Horizon League to have reached double-digits in every game this season.
20+ Point Barrage
  • IUPUI has started the season with six-straight games of having a 20-point scorer. This feat was achieved with four games by Macee Williams, and one each by Katelyn O'Reilly and Holly Hoopingarner. The last time IUPUI had a 20-point scorer in six-straight games was in 2003.
  • The Jags have had a 20-point scorer in nine of their 12 games this year. Macee Williams leads the way with six of them.
