INDIANAPOLIS – One school record fell while another was matched on the last day of the 2018 House of Champions. Freshman
Nick Hanas crushed the school record in the men's 200 backstroke and the IUPUI women's 400 freestyle relay tied the school mark.
Hanas finished with the top individual finish in the pool for IUPUI, taking fourth in the men's 200 backstroke in a time of 1:47.30, more than two seconds better than the school record set in 2014. It was the longest-standing men's school record.
To close out the night, the team of
Andrea Hanas,
Meagan Ronci,
Tori Kroon and
Mallory Buha took third in the women's 400 freestyle relay, clocking a time of 3:25.83. This mark tied the record set in last year's Horizon League Championships set by the same four swimmers.
For the team competition, IUPUI;s women finished in fourth out of ten schools and the men took fifth in the nine-team competition.
The afternoon started with the 1650 freestyle where
Olivia Treski (17:06.81) and
Ben Levart (15.40.99) both finished sixth in the women's and men's event respectively.
Aubrey Wing took seventh in the women's 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:20.41, and
Sydney Kermath earned an eighth-place finish in the women's 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.22.
In the 200 butterfly events,
Mark Auger took fifth in the men's race with a time of 1:50.29 and
Carmen Escalante Ruiz was sixth with a mark of 2:03.71.
Jackson Sandala had the best showing in the 100 freestyle with a sixth place finish (45.36). The men's 400 freestyle relay featuring Sandala as well as Josh Barajas, Jung and Anderson, finished seventh with a time of 3:03.14.
On the boards, IUPUI's men took the top three spots in the 1-meter competition with
Patrick Tener winning the event, scoring 279.40 points. Tener was followed by
Erik Romer (267.40) and
Mitch Mastey (258.50).
Carolyn Dietz took seventh in the women's 3-meter with a score of 229.60.
