MEN'S TENNIS COMPLETES PLAY AT THE PURDUE INVITE

Four different Jags earned singles wins in the tournament.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –
IUPUI's men's tennis team saw its first action as a full squad over the weekend competing in the Purdue Fall Invitational. Four Jags earned victories during the tournament, including three players with two wins and Reed Plunkett competed for a flight championship.

Plunkett, competing in Flight I, had a bye in his first round match of the draw before beating Bruno Goncalves of Niagara 6-3, 6-3 in his second round match. Plunkett then punched his ticked to the flight championship with a three-set 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-7 win over Wright State's Carlos Estrada. Plunkett fell just short of the championship dropping a three set match to Niagara's Darrel Harxhi 2-6, 6-4 10-7.

The other two Jags that took home two match wins came in Flight D from both Alex Jochim and Sean Bailey. Jochim began his tournament with a 4-6, 6-1 10-6 win over Reid Teatsorth from Toledo. Jochim then grabbed a 7-6, 6-1 win over Marquette's Fran San Andres before falling to Ryan Roegner from Butler.

Bailey took on Conner Andersen from Ball State and won his match in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 13-11 but lost to Raul Teichmann from Cleveland State 6-4, 7-6. Bailey then earned a win by default over Thawin Suksathapom.

Colton Morehart picked up the other IUPUI singles win taking down Luis Sanchez from Cardinal Stritch 7-6 (5), 7-5 in round one before losing to Marquette's Shaddy Khalafallah 7-6, 6-3.

In doubles play, the team of Luetschwager and Jochim won their first round match in flight A over Marquette's San Andres and Meyers, 7-6 (4). The duo of Bailey and Mardanus-Budiono won 6-4 in flight B over Kah and Franssen from Purdue Northwest. Siddiki and Koch earned IUPUI's last doubles win beating Cellupica-Towers and Bourghelle from Wright State 6-4. 

IUPUI will be back in action with players at the ITA Rolex Regionals that run from Thursday (Oct. 11) to Monday (Oct. 15).
