INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI volleyball will host a Halloween showdown against Cleveland State on Wednesday (Oct. 31) before hitting the road for the final time this season on Friday (Nov. 2).
The Jaguars (5-21, 2-10 Horizon) will begin the second-to-last week of play against Cleveland State (16-8, 10-2 Horizon), who is tied for first in the league with Green Bay. The match against the Vikings will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jungle and can be streamed on ESPN+.
After taking on the Vikings, IUPUI will hit the road for its final road match of the season as the Jags will take on the Milwaukee Panthers at 7 p.m. The match against the Panthers will be streamed on ESPN+.
IUPUI sits three games back of Oakland for the final spot in the Horizon League tournament with four matches to play. The Jaguars play host to the Golden Grizzlies in their second-to-last match of the season and already have a win against Oakland.
Senior
Maggie Gibson leads the way on offense for the Jags with 2.72 kills per set, followed by
Elizabeth Scott (2.32),
Hannah Oehlberg (2.27) and
Abby Boatman (2.22). Oehlberg has led the Jags in kills in each of the last three matches as Gibson served as the primary setter over the Jags four-match road trip.
On defense, three Jags are averaging over 3.00 digs per set led by
Rhiannon Schuenemann with 3.75.
Rachel Hickey (3.71) and Gibson (3.29) have helped the Jags average 18.69 per set on the season.
IUPUI v CLEVELAND STATE
The Jags will look for their first win against Cleveland State in school history. IUPUI is 0-6 all-time against the Vikings, including losing all three Horizon League meetings between the two teams in the last two seasons.
The first meeting between the two teams was a 3-0 win for Cleveland State on Oct. 5. IUPUI finished with a season-high 94 digs and added 11 blocks but could not get the offense going, hitting just .065 for the match.
McKayla Wright led the Jags on offense with nine kills and
Rebecca Schlechte finished with a double-double of 30 assists and 18 digs.
Maggie Gibson led the way for IUPUI with 20 digs and five Jags finished in double figures on the defensive end.
Cleveland State is fourth in the Horizon League with a .193 hitting percentage as a team but is holding opponents to just a .148 hitting percentage, 30 points better than second place Northern Kentucky and Wright State. The Vikings do most of their defensive damage at the net where the Vikings are first in the league in blocks per set at 2.82.
IUPUI at MILWAUKEE
IUPUI was dropped in three sets by Milwaukee as the Jags allowed the Panthers to hit .246 in the matchup.
The Jags had two players with double-digit kills, led by Gibson with 13 and
Maddie Dean finished with 10. Gibson also posted a double-double with 15 digs to lead the way for the Jags.
Rebecca Schlechte guided the offense with 34 assists.
Milwaukee's offense has struggled this season, hitting just .166 as a team and is eighth in the league in opponent hitting percentage at .207. The Panthers also sit last in the league in blocks per set, only collecting 1.73 per frame.
