INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI volleyball will look to snap a six-game losing streak as the Jags head to Wright State and Northern Kentucky over the weekend. The Jags will face off against the Raiders on Friday (Oct. 26) at 6 p.m., before playing the Norse at 4 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 27).
IUPUI sits one game behind Wright State and Oakland for the sixth and final spot in the Horizon League tournament with a 2-8 record in conference play. The Jags began the second half of the conference season begin swept by Green Bay and UIC to start a four-game road trip.
Head coach
Steve Payne's squad is led on offense by
Maggie Gibson, who has 2.91 kills per set and is hitting .199 on the season. IUPUI has four other players with at least two kills per set with
Elizabeth Scott second on the team (2.43) and
Abby Boatman third (2.21). Boatman is the team leader in hitting percentage at .233. Sophomore
Rebecca Schlechte leads the offense with 6.98 assists per set and Gibson is second at 3.04.
On the defensive side, IUPUI is third in the nation in digs per set at 19.02, led by sophomore
Rhiannon Schuenemann with 3.81 per set.
Rachel Hickey (3.72) and Gibson (3.34) round out the top three for the Jags back line defense. At the net, IUPUI has increased its blocks per set average to two per frame with Boatman leading the way at 1.06 per set, followed by
Haley Hoffman at 1.02.
WRIGHT STATE –
(11-11, 3-7 Horizon) – Friday (Oct. 26), 6 p.m.
In the first matchup versus Wright State, IUPUI lost 3-1 to the Raiders as the Jags only hit .076 for the match. Gibson led the way for the Jags on offense with 12 kills and 16 assists and Boatman tallied 11 kills. The Jags allowed Wright State to hit .188 and were out-digged (81-68) and out-blocked (12-4) by the Raiders. Since the last meeting, Wright State has earned a five-set win over Northern Kentucky but lost their last two matches in four sets at UIC and Milwaukee.
NORTHERN KENTUCKY –
(13-8, 5-5 Horizon) – Saturday (Oct. 27), 4 p.m., ESPN+
The Jags were beaten in four sets by Northern Kentucky the last time the two teams met. The first three sets were three-point wins before the Norse won set four 25-14. Gibson posted her last double-double against the Norse, leading the team with 13 kills and tallying 18 assists. Freshman
Hannah Oehlberg matched a season-high with 11 kills and grabbed eight digs in the match. The Jags offense performed well in the first three sets before hitting .000 in the last frame.
