JAGUARS HEAD TO CLEVELAND STATE FOR CONFERENCE TILT

IUPUI plays its fifth-straight road game when the Jags meet up with Cleveland State on Thursday.

GAME NOTES

CLEVELAND – The road challenge for the IUPUI continues as the Jaguars take on Cleveland State on Thursday, Jan. 4.

The game against the Vikings will be the fifth-straight game on the road for Austin Parkinson's squad. It is also the second-straight Horizon League road game after the Jags began the conference slate with an 82-46 win over UIC.

The Jags dominated the Flames the last time IUPUI took the court with Danielle Lawrence leading the team with a game-high 21 points. Lawrence is third in the league averaging 17 points per game. Three other Jags finished in double figures with Macee Williams scoring 13, reaching double-digits for the seventh time in her last night games. Williams is the first freshman for IUPUI to accomplish that feat since 2011-2012. Holly Hoopingarner and Morgan Allen each added 11 in the win.

The 46 points given up by the Jags were the lowest allowed on the year but the Jags will face a tougher test against Cleveland State, the only other team still undefeated in league play having won their first two games.

SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE: Cleveland State (10-3, 2-0) comes in to the matchup having won four-straight, including wins against Oakland and Cleveland State to start the conference season. The Vikings are second in the league in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 33.6 percent from deep. Ashanti Abshaw leads the team with 19.3 points per game, second in the Horizon, and Khayla Livingston (14.8) and Olivia Voskuhl (13.6) are also averaging double-digits per game. Voskuhl is also the leading rebounds for the Vikings, pulling down 7.8 boards per game.

Cleveland State is scoring 68.2 points per contest and shooting 44 percent from the field while holding opponents to 38 percent shooting and 63.5 points per game. On defense for the Vikings, Shadae Bosley leads the Horizon League with 2.4 blocked shots per game. The Vikings force 14.6 turnovers per game and grab 8.7 steals per contest.

QUOTABLE: Cleveland State is a talented, well-coached team that is playing really good basketball right now," said Parkinson. "We will have to stay disciplined in our defensive principles and continue to play unselfish offensively."
