EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – IUPUI women's tennis earned their first victory of the season with a big win over SIU-Edwardsville on Friday (Jan. 26).
The Jags (1-1) won every match of the afternoon on route to a 7-0 win against the Cougars (0-1). It was the first 7-0 win for IUPUI since a sweep over Western Illinois on Feb. 28, 2015.
IUPUI got things started quickly with
Samantha Mayer and
Molly Nguyen winning the No. 2 doubles match 6-2.
Marina Schneiger and
Hayley Trinkle earned the Jags the doubles point with a 6-2 win of their own at the No. 3 spot.
Valeriia Lavrenchuk and
Krystal Grubb combined for a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot.
In the singles matches, Nguyen made quick work of her opponent at the No. 4 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Schneiger only surrendered two games on route to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Grubb clinched the match for the Jags with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
Mayer took the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-4; Lavrenchuk won at No. 1, 7-6, 6-2, and Trinkle picked up a win at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
The Jags will stay on the road for their next match, taking on Chicago State on Sunday afternoon.
