INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI lost its 2018 season opener to Valparaiso, falling to the Crusaders, 7-0 at the West Indy Racquet Club on Saturday (Jan. 20) night.

The Jags picked up one win in the doubles competition with Valeriia Lavrenchuk and Krystal Grubb beating Valpo's No. 1 team 7-5. Unfortunately, the jags lost the doubles point after Samantha Mayer and Molly Nguyen lost the No. 2 match, 6-0, and Haley Trinkle and Marina Schneiger fell 6-3 in the No. 3 doubles match.

In the singles matches, Schneiger played one of the tightest matches of the night, falling in three sets at the No. 5 spot, 4-6, 7-6, 3-10. Lavrenchuk also lost a close battle at the No. 1 singles spot, falling 3-6, 5-6. In the No. 2 singles match, Grubb lost 1-6, 2-6, Mayer lost the No. 3 singles match 4-6, 3-6, Ngyuen fell in No. 4 singles 4-6, 1-6 and Trinkle lost 0-6, 0-6 in the No. 6 singles match.

The Jags will be back on the court for their next three matches, beginning with a match against SIU-Edwardsville on Jan. 26.
