INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will step out of Horizon League play on Tuesday night (Sept. 26) to host Valparaiso at 7:00 p.m. at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Admission is FREE for IUPUI students with a valid Crimson Card and adult tickets are just $5. In addition, the match will be broadcast on ESPN3 as Morgan Adcock (pxp) is on the call.
The Jags continue the hunt for their first result of the 2017 season and are 0-2 on the home field this season.
The Jags (0-7) dropped a 3-0 outcome at Northern Kentucky on Saturday night to slip to 0-3 in Horizon League play. IUPUI has been blanked in three straight, dropping three consecutive 3-0 decisions.
Offensively,
Pedro Valladao continues to lead the Jaguars with a goal and an assist and has attempted a team-high nine shots from his midfield spot.
Yan Souza and
Tommy Patacca have the Jaguars' other scores while
Sam Gavin and
Uriel Macias have contributed assists.
In goal, redshirt freshman
Tyler Shanahan has started the last three matches, yielding nine goals and collecting 17 saves. Before that, redshirt freshman
Michael Buck started the opening four games of the year, posting a 2.00 goals against average and 11 saves.
Head Coach
Brian Barnett oversees one of the nation's youngest rosters as 13 of his 21 players are first or second-year players. Senior
Harold Agyeman-Prempeh and Gavin have yet to come off the field this season, having played all 630 minutes. Patacca, a freshman, is just off the pace with 624 minutes in the defensive third.
QUOTABLE: "Tonight was another difficult result for our team. There continues to be a lack of execution on our part over the course of the game on both sides of the ball. All the credit in the world goes to Northern Kentucky; they are an organized and defensively stout group that does not give anything to your attack," said Barnett after Saturday's 3-0 loss at Northern Kentucky.
JAGS WEEK OF GIVING - OVERTIME: Sept. 15-23 marked the first-ever Jaguars Giving Week as the department pushed to add 200 donors in a span of 200 hours. The response was overwhelming and humbling as nearly 400 donations have already been received as part of the initiative, so in an effort to keep the momentum going, IUPUI Athletics is offering 50 hours of 'overtime' for additional giving. These tax deductible gifts help benefit the entire program or can be earmarked to benefit specific programs.

IUPUI UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN: One of IUPUI's greatest strengths is the university's commitment to community engagement and IUPUI Athletics takes that commitment to improving the community seriously. On Tuesday, IUPUI will show support of the
United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI).
FORMER JAG EARNS MLS SPOT: After a long uphill climb, former IUPUI goalkeeper Eduardo Cortes recently inked a deal with the MLS FC Dallas as the team's third goalkeeper.
SCOUTING VALPO: Valpo is 3-4-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in six matches away from home. The Crusaders have dropped back-to-back contests with recent home losses to Fort Wayne (2-1) and Central Arkansas (3-2). Rafael Mentzingen (3 goals) and Adan Garcia (2 goals, 2 assists) lead the VU attack as Mentzinger has attempted a team-high 26 shots. Eight different VU players have tallied at least one goal as the Crusaders have scored 12 goals in eight games. Defensively, Nacho Miras has played the bulk of the minutes in net, registering a 1.61 goals against average and 33 saves in seven appearances.
INSIDE THE SERIES: IUPUI is 7-15-1 all-time against Valpo in a series that dates back to the 1987 season. Valpo defeated the Jaguars 5-0 last season in Northwest Indiana and has won the last four meetings in the series. The last IUPUI victory was a 1-0 win on Sept. 19, 2012. Two of the last four meetings were Valpo overtime wins.
UP NEXT: IUPUI will host UIC in Horizon League play on Saturday night (Sept. 30) at 7:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium in a match broadcast on ESPN3.
