INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer program has announced the addition of Matthew Roop as assistant coach ahead of the upcoming fall season. Roop comes to IU Indy from nearby University of Indianapolis where he served as assistant coach last season. Roop helped the Greyhounds to an 11-6-3 record last season and an NCAA DII Tournament berth, which included an opening round win over McKendree. 

"We are excited to welcome Matthew Roop to the IU Indy Men's Soccer program," head coach Keegan Boom said. "He brings valuable experience from his time at the University of Indianapolis, Manchester University and The Ohio State University. He has gained a well-rounded and winning experience at every level which will be a tremendous asset to our players.

"Beyond his experience, Matthew is a great fit for the culture we continue to build. His energy, attention to detail, and work ethic will make an immediate impact on our program, and I'm looking forward to having him on our staff."

Roop joined UIndy from Manchester University where he was the assistant men's soccer coach from 2023-25. While at Manchester, he served as the team's head assistant coach, the reserve team's head coach, led the recruiting efforts of the team and also directed and organized the fundraising camps and clinics for the program.  

Prior to Manchester, Roop spent one season at The Ohio State University where he served as the men's soccer team's volunteer assistant coach. In his lone season with the Buckeyes, the team earned its fewest losses in program history as well as earning its first undefeated non-conference season in program history. While in Columbus, Roop also worked for Barca Academy as the 2013 Pre-ECNL and 2009 ECNL boys head coach, as well as serving an Assistant Technical Director for the club. 

Roop previously spent two years at the University of Illinois earning a master's degree in recreation, sport and tourism while also serving as the Premium Seating Graduate Assistant and as an Illinois soccer manager.

As a student-athlete, Roop was a four-year starter and three-time captain on the Manchester soccer team, earning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) all-league honors twice. During his career, he was part of the winningest team in school history.

Roop and the Jaguars will begin the upcoming season with preseason tilts at Dayton (Aug. 7), at Ohio State (Aug. 11) and a home match with Xavier (Aug. 14).
