LEBANON, Ind. - The IUPUI women's golf team won matches over Dayton and Western Illinois on Sunday (Apr. 15) at Trophy Club to advance to face Butler in Monday's championship.
Butler defeated Rend Lake and Valparaiso to advance to the championship.
IUPUI knocked off Dayton 4-1 in the morning session, getting wins from
Erin Ingram (4&3),
Lindsey Budnik (2&1) and
Lindsey Hackleman (4&3) for three points.
Aneta Abrahamova halved her match with DU's Jenna DiPaulo at the No. 1 spot, as did
MeKenzie Hilsmeyer in the No. 3 spot.
In the afternoon segment, IUPUI squeaked out a 4-1 victory over Summit League foe Western Illinois to advance to Monday's championship.
Abrahamova won her match 3&2 and Ingram, Hilsmeyer and Budnik all won 1-up to collect four of the five possible points. Hackleman lost at the No. 5 spot, 6&5 to account for the Fighting Leathernecks' lone point.
Hilsmeyer won five of the final seven holes and Ingram won four of the final eight to pull off miraculous come-from-behind victories.
"Today was awesome. I think the team really enjoyed the tournament format. It definitely brought out a competitive side in us," Ingram said. "Personally, today was much needed for some confidence. Kenz and I battled during our second rounds and ended up both winning so we could continue to the championship tomorrow.
"It was an experience I won't forget - one of my favorites in my collegiate career. It was awesome to play with her and this type of tournament. We are really looking forward to tomorrow."
