SPARTANBURG, S.C. - IU Indianapolis women's golf freshman
Li (Sherry) Xia led the way on day one of the Terrier Intercollegiate on Monday (Oct. 13), carding rounds of 77 and 82 at the Country Club of Spartanburg and is tied for 35th among the 74-player field.
"I had a good start today, but I just couldn't find my rhythm in the second round," Xia said. "Hopefully I can bounce back and play better tomorrow."
IU Indy is tenth among the 15-team field at 656 going into Tuesday's finale after posting rounds of 325 and 331 on Monday. East Tennessee State leads the field at 593 and host Wofford is second at 599.
Xia led the way with an opening round 77, making 12 pars and a pair of birdies in the morning 18. Senior
Yanah Rolston shot 7-over 79 and
Lexi Stuart posted an 8-over 80. Freshman
Emma Frauhiger was countable at 89 and classmate
Olivia Aronhalt had an opening round of 93.
Aronhalt rebounded with a second round 79, making three birdies in her afternoon round. Xia shot 10-over 82 and both Rolston and Frauhiger were countable at 85.
Stuart was just outside the scoring four at 86.
ETSU's Sophia Gambini leads the field at 1-over 145 and teammate Arisa Piyamanit shot 2-over 146.
Teams will begin their final round at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning (Oct. 14).
