CARBONDALE, Ill. - Monday's final round of the Saluki Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Course has been canceled due to inclement weather. The Jaguars finished sixth overall in the weather shortened event while junior
Aneta Abrahamova placed third.
Host Southern Illinois won the tournament at 602, followed by Loyola (624), Lipscomb (631), Austin Peay (634) and SIU's 'B' team (635).
Junior
Aneta Abrahamova continued her torrid play this spring, carding rounds of 74 and 72 to finish third among the 75-player field. She closed Sunday's action strong, carding 34 on her final nine holes of the day with a pair of birdies. With the third-place finish, Abrahamova collected her sixth top-10 of the year and 15th of her three-year career.
"The golf course was very wet today and the wind picked up in the middle of the first round," Abrahamova said. "The weather got better during the second round and I was able to make some good pars and birdies on the back nine to finish even par."
Senior
Lindsey Budnik ended her tournament at 162 (78-84) and fellow senior
MeKenzie Hilsmeyer closed at 164 (87-77).
Erin Ingram finished one shot back of Hilsmeyer at 165 (82-83) and sophomore
Elizabeth Orr, the hero from last season's Saluki Invite victory, ended at 174 (89-85).
IUPUI was second among the field with 102 pars, but made just eight birdies as a team on Sunday. Abrahamova had a team-high five birdies for the tournament.
Sophomore
Lindsey Hackleman finished 23rd overall at 160 (80-80) while playing as an individual. Hackleman gained confidence by making a hole-in-one with her 9-iron on No. 8 during the team's practice round. Orr aced the same hole during last year's practice round as the Jaguars now have five holes-in-one in the past two years in practice.
SIU's Brooke Cusamano won the event at even par 144 (73-71) and Loyola's Elayna Bowser finished second at 145 (72-73).
The Jaguars will return to action on Apr. 3-4 when selected individuals participate in the Marian Spring Invitational at Broadmoor Country Club. The full team will compete on Apr. 8-9 at the IU Spring Invitational in Bloomington.
