PEORIA, Ill. – Playing in front of a Bradley program record 323 people in the Renaissance Coliseum Saturday night (March 25), the IUPUI women's tennis team was stalled in its effort to break what is now a four-meet losing streak with a 2-5 loss to the Braves (9-8).
Despite the loss, the Jags were able to again secure points at the No. 1 and 2 singles spots, as
Valeriia Lavrenchuk and
Sara Sherif were winners in their respective matches. Lavrenchuk battled through a lengthy bout with Ariel Dechter at the No. 1 spot, eventually sealing the point 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Sherif also had to go the distance against Alejandra de Lasa, winning 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).
Sherif and doubles partner
Samantha Mayer started the day well out of the No. 1 spot, taking their match against Natalia Barbery and Ashley Thai 6-4. Despite the win, the Jags fell in the next two spots, losing the doubles point to pit the Jags to a deficit early.
With the loss, IUPUI will look to rebound in a Summit League contest against Western Illinois on March 31 at 2 p.m. EST in Macomb, Illinois.
