VALPARAISO, Ind. – Opening up their weekend bill with a big win, the IUPUI women's tennis team (2-10) put together a clutch performance against Valparaiso (0-6) Friday afternoon (Feb. 24), logging four singles victories after dropping the doubles point.
Valeriia Lavrenchuk and
Mariella Pessina were two of the Jags top-performers on the day, as the duo combined for a 6-4 at the No. 2 doubles spot, despite the Jags falling at No. 1 and 3. In singles play, Lavrenchuk secured the Jags victory in the second-to-last match, going the distance in a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win at the No. 1. Pessina put up a strong showing in a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot, finishing just before Lavrenchuk's meet-winning performance.
Sara Sherif bullied her opponent at the No. 2 singles spot, downing Paige Heuer 6-2, 6-0 in a quick match. Her doubles partner
Samantha Mayer was also quick to dispatch of her matchup, dropping Dao Sysouvanh 6-0, 6-3.
With the victory, the Jags capture their second dual-meet of the season and will continue their schedule with the Indiana Hoosiers Saturday (Feb. 25) at 4 p.m. EST.
