MUNCIE, Ind. – After winning their first dual-meet of the season, the IUPUI women's tennis team (1-10) weren't able to keep their good fortune going against Ball State (7-2), dropping the Sunday matinee 0-7 on the road.
The Jags came close to taking the No. 2 doubles matchup, as
Mariella Pessina and
Valeriia Lavrenchuk pushed their set to a 6-6 draw. In the tie-breaker, the Jags were just a couple swings short of a victory, dropping the decision 7-5.
Samantha Mayer was the only IUPUI player to secure a set on the day, as she nabbed a 7-6 (1) decision in the opening set at the No. 3 singles spot. She'd drop the following set 2-6 before losing a super tiebreaker 4-10.
With the loss, the Jags will return to the court Friday (Feb. 24) when the team returns to the road to face Valparaiso at 11 a.m. EST.
