PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The IUPUI women's golf team put together their best round of the weekend at the Ball State Sunshine Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 11), carding a final round 328 at the St. Lucie Trail Golf Club. Junior Aneta Abrahamova and senior MeKenzie Hilsmeyer set the tone for the final round, both carding scores of 80 on the final day. The Jaguars finished ninth among the 12-team field at 1,003 (340-335-328) in the spring opener.

Toledo won the event at 938, followed by Southern Illinois (950), Lamar (953), Eastern Kentucky (963) and Ball State (977). Lamar's Elodie Chaplet and Toledo's Thunpijja Sukkasem finished atop the leaderboard at 15-over 231.

Abrahamova was consistent on Saturday, aside from a double bogey on her 54th hole of the tournament. An early birdie on No. 13 had her even through five holes before she made bogey on four of her next five holes. She later made up a stroke with a birdie on the short par-3 No. 7, but gave it back with a double on No. 8. She collected her fifth top-10 finish of the year and 14th of her collegiate career, closing the event tied for ninth at 237 (83-74-80).

"Finishing top 10 always feels nice, however I wish it would have been with a better score," Abrahamova said. "I hit some really good shots today, however, I was unlucky with my putting. I have been sick the past couple of days, so I hope to get better soon and improve my game to the next tournament.

"In one month, we are leaving for Hilton Head for Spring Break when we will have a chance to practice before our tournament in Phoenix."

Hilsmeyer continued to get more comfortable as the tournament drug on, finishing at 250 (86-84-80) to place 34th of 66 players. She finished strong, going birdie-par on her final two holes and had four birdies for the tournament.

Sophomore Lindsey Hackleman ended her tournament at 263 (83-96-84) and senior Erin Ingram finished at 266 (88-85-93). Senior Lindsey Budnik rounded out the bunch at 268 (92-92-84).

"It was so nice to be able to hit off nice grass instead of mats," Hackleman said of the spring opener. "The course was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for better weather. It was an awesome course to play our first tournament of the spring on."

IUPUI won't compete against until the Mar. 17-19 Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz..
