WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TRAVELS TO TENNESSEE TECH ON SUNDAY

Jags begin a streak of six-straight games on the road with a matchup against Tennessee Tech on Sunday.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – IUPUI's women's basketball team will begin a stretch of six-straight road games with a visit to Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Jags will look to rebound from a tough overtime loss to Miami (Ohio) their last time on the court. Danielle Lawrence scored 29 points in the Jags loss and has now scored over 20+ points in her last three games. She was the last Jaguar to accomplish that feat, when she scored 20+ in four-straight contest in January and February of 2016.

Redshirt junior Tamya Sims had one of her best games as a Jaguar against the RedHawks, notching a career-high 22 points and finishing with nine rebounds.
For the season, Lawrence is tops on the team with 19.5 points per game while freshman Macee Williams is second with 10.9 points per game while leading the team with 7.9 rebounds. Sims sits third on the team, scoring 10.1 points per game.

The backcourt for the Jags has been led by Holly Hoopingarner, who is averaging 9.3 points and Sydney Hall who is averaging 9.0.

Head coach Austin Parkinson's squad enters the game against Tennessee Tech shooting almost 45 percent from the field, while holding their opponents to just 40 percent. The Jags have outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points per game.

Getting off to a hot start is key for the Jags, as IUPUI has not trailed in any of its six wins this season and has only been tied for 1:47 seconds in its six victories.

SCOUTING TENNESSEE TECH: Tennessee Tech (2-6) enters the game having ended a six-game losing streak with a win over Cumberland, 83-52. The Golden Eagles have struggled this year on offense, only scoring an average of 58.5 points per game, led by Yaktavia Hickson with 11.4 points per contest. Kesha Brady is the only other player in double-figures at 10.3 per game.

Tennessee Tech is allowing opponents to shoot almost 44 percent from the field and has been held to just 38 percent shooting on the year. The Golden Eagles are also behind in the rebounding battle (-6.7) and the turnover battle (-2.9) averaging over 20 turnovers per game.

LAST MEETING: In the only meeting between the two schools, IUPUI beat Tennessee Tech last year 77-63. The Jags overcame a one-point halftime deficit to beat the Golden Eagles behind 17 points from Lawrence. Five players, including Lawrence scored in double-figures including Hall (15), Hoopingarner (11) and former Jags Mikale Rogers and Kelsi Byrd who each scored 10.

QUOTABLE: "This game will be good to see how we react coming off a tough loss," said Parkinson. "We have to get back to having a defensive mindset if we want to win on the road."
