CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The IUPUI women's basketball team's regular season gets underway with a road game at Northern Iowa on Friday, Nov. 10. IUPUI will be looking for its first season opening win since 2013 when the Jags beat Belmont, 80-58.

"We are excited about getting the season underway against a really disciplined Northern Iowa squad," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "Our kids like playing quality competition so to start the year against a team coming off of an NCAA tournament appearance will be a nice challenge."

The game is a completion of a home-and-home after Northern Iowa beat IUPUI 69-62 in Indianapolis last season. This will be the second time that these two teams have ever played each other. The game will be streamed on ESPN and you can listen to the call from Scott Agness online at IUPUIJags.com.

The Jags began their playing schedule on Nov. 2 when they took on Urbana in an exhibition. IUPUI beat the Blue Knights 106-42 as every player on the roster scored for Coach Parkinson. Freshman Morgan Allen led all Jags with 15 points while sophomore Taylor Drake contributed 13. Danielle Lawrence and Macee Williams each had 12 points and another freshman Sydney Roule had 11, including a team-high three threes. The stat sheet should look a little different against Northern Iowa as the starters played limited minutes against Urbana.

Scouting Northern Iowa: The Northern Iowa Panthers are also opening their regular season in the game against IUPUI. The Panthers played an exhibition game against Sioux Falls and came away with an 80-53 win. Northern Iowa had four players reach double figures, three of them starters. Mikaela Morgan led the way with 18 points and Karli Ricker had 15. Off the bench, Nicole Kroeger finished with 14 points going 4-for-5 from downtown. Megan Maahs was the last Panther to reach double-figures with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

QUOTABLE: "Northern Iowa is very well coached, tough and disciplined in what they do. Playing on the road means we have to take care of the ball on offense and get back in transition on defense," said Coach Parkinson.

LAST MEETING – This marks the second ever meeting between the Jags and the Panthers. The first came last season, also in the season opener for each team, in Indianapolis. Northern Iowa came away with a 69-62 win over the Jags. All of the starters from the game last season for Northern Iowa are not projected to be in the starting lineup with only one player still on the roster from a season ago. Fifteen of the 69 points the Panthers scored were from players the Jags will see in this meeting. IUPUI was led by Lawrence, who score 13 but committed eight turnovers. Sydney Hall and Mikale Rogers each had 11 while Holly Hoopingarner finished with nine.

UP NEXT: After the game against Northern Iowa the Jags will return for a two-game homestand. The first game will be on Monday, Nov. 13 against Georgetown (Ky.). That game will be part of a double-header at Indiana Farmers Coliseum with the game starting at 5 p.m. followed by the men's team playing afterward. The Lady Jags will then return to The Jungle for a game on Friday, Nov. 17 against Indiana State at 7 p.m. Both of those games can be seen on ESPN3 with Scott Agness on play-by-play.
