NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The IUPUI women's tennis team brought five players to the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals and left the tournament with two wins, one on the singles side and one on the doubles side.
Freshman
Kristi Tinsley had the best showing for the Jags, earning both wins for the team. In singles competition, Tinsley won her first match in the B Flight 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 over Marie Kapelevich from Evansville. Tinsley then took the No. 9 seed Drew Hawkins of Belmont to three sets before losing in a tie breaker 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(6).
Tinsley teamed up with #Krystal Grubb in the B Flight doubles, falling in their first match 8-7(3) to a team from Belmont, before beating another team from Belmont, 8-5 in the consolation round.
In other singles action in the tournament, IUPUI had two players in the main draw.
Mariella Pessina fell to Aarushi Kakkar of Tennessee State 6-0, 6-1, and
Samantha Mayer lost to Xavier's Lauren Ghidotti 6-0, 6-2. In the B Flight, Grubb lost to Terra Sheldon of Belmont, 6-4, 7-6(1), and
Hayley Trinkle lost 6-0, 6-2 to Ashia Jones of Tennessee State.
IUPUI's other doubles team of Pessina and Mayer lost to Purdue, 8-0 and fell to a team from Ball State 8-2 in the consolation round.
The Jags will be back on the court one more time in the fall season taking place in the SIU-Edwardsville tournament October 27-28.
