WOMEN'S SOCCER TO HOST WRIGHT STATE, FORT WAYNE

IUPUI (11-3, 5-0 Horizon) look to stay perfect in Horizon League play

INDIANAPOLIS - Riding a 10-game winning streak, the IUPUI women's soccer team will host a pair of matches this week, beginning with Friday's Horizon League contest with Wright State at 7:00 p.m.. The Jags will then welcome Fort Wayne in non-conference action on Sunday as part of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN3 as Scott Agness (pxp) will be on the call of both broadcasts. 

Admission is FREE for IUPUI students with a valid Crimson Card to both matches and tickets are 'Buy One Get One' on Friday as part of the department's 'Chase for the Championship' promotion.

QUOTABLE: "Coming into the game, we knew what we needed to do. We wanted to put the ball on the turf and move it quickly. We came out and executed the game plan. It was a great game all around. We capitalized on our opportunities and our defense came up big with another shutout. This was a true team effort all over the field," said Shelton after last weekend's 2-0 win at Youngstown State. 

CHART CLIMBING: Kirkhoff and Shelton are tied for the program's all-time lead in assists, having both distributed 18 assists in their four-year careers. Kirkhoff is now third on the program's all-time list in career points with 70 (26 goals, 18 assists) overall. Megan Hock (2008-11) has the program's all-time mark with 74 points (32 goals, 10 assists). 

TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD: IUPUI captured the program's eighth straight United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) Team Academic Award on Thursday (Oct. 5). It's the 12th time in program history the Jags have been recognized and the program's 3.72 grade point average ranked third among the nation's Division I programs. 

SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE: Wright State comes in at 8-6 overall and 3-2 in Horizon League play this season. The Raiders recently snapped a two-game losing skid with a 2-0 win over Oakland. WSU has been strong offensively, outscoring foes 24-15 for the year with 12 different players having at least one score. Sarah Colvin (5 goals, 6 assists) and Aaliyah Patten (3 goals, 6 assists) lead the attack and have both started all 14 matches. In goal, Maddie Jewell has started 10 times and registered a 7-4-0 mark with four shutouts. For the season, she has a 0.87 goals against average and .800 save percentage in her 11 appearances. 

SCOUTING FORT WAYNE: Fort Wayne comes in at 1-11 overall and 0-2 in Summit League play. The Mastodons are led by Kendall Quinn (3 goals) and Jessica Schoenfeldt (2 goals, 1 assist) offensively, but have been outscored 29-10 on the season. In goal, Emma Gaggioli (2.18 GAA) and Haley Lydon (2.51 GAA) have split time, combining on 61 saves and a .685 save percentage. Fort Wayne will open the weekend by hosting South Dakota on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  

INSIDE THE SERIES- 
    vs. Wright State: IUPUI is 0-7 all-time against Wright State and 0-3 in three matches played in Indy. WSU won the last meeting 4-1 on Sept. 9, 2012 in Indianapolis. The series began in 1999. 
    vs. Fort Wayne: IUPUI is 4-7-4 all-time against former league foe Fort Wayne. The Jaguars are 2-4-2 in the previous eight meetings in Indianapolis. The two sides have played to 2-2 draws the past two seasons, including last year's meeting on Oct. 7, 2016 in Fort Wayne. 

UP NEXT: IUPUI will embark on a critical two-game Horizon League road trip beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 18 when the Jaguars take on Milwaukee. The road swing will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Oakland.
