INDIANAPOLIS – After kicking off Summit League play in grand style, the IUPUI women's basketball team (11-3, 1-0) will head to the road for the first of three-straight road games, as the Jags will take on the Omaha Mavericks (7-7, 0-1) Thursday (Jan. 5) at 8 p.m. EST. IUPUI enters the contest riding a three-game winning streak and recently bumped up to 18th on the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
Continuing down the path of what has already been an exciting and accomplished season, the Jags are looking to keep pace atop what has been a very strong Summit League this year. Currently sitting in third place after just one League game, the Jags are coming off a 66-52 victory over Western Illinois (11-4, 1-1) this past weekend (Dec. 31). Featuring the second-leading scorer in the Summit League and a wily defense that forces more than 20 turnovers a game, the Leathernecks saw their chaos-creating game plan picked apart by stellar ball movement from the Jags, as IUPUI limited hot-handed Emily Clemens to just eight points.
On the year, the Jags are averaging 71.2 points per game while shooting .448 from the field. Defensively, IUPUI has limited opponents to a 57.3 average and a .385 clip. The second-highest scoring average in the Summit League, the Jags own a League-leading .393 shooting-percentage from three-point range while holding opponents to just .278 from beyond the arc.
Danielle Lawrence continues to lead the team with 15.2 points per game, while
Mikale Rogers averages 14.1 points and 7.6 rebounds. Rogers also leads the Summit League with 33 blocks.
Sydney Hall raised her scoring average to 11.3 points per game after posting a career-high 22 points on a 7-for-8 showing from long-range in the Jags victory over WIU. One of the most prolific shooters in the Summit, Hall leads the League with a .516 clip from three-point range. She ranks fourth in overall field-goal percentage.
The Mavs opened up Summit League play against Oral Roberts, dropping a heart-breaking 65-67 decision. Omaha rebounded in their next game, exploding for 106 points in a 69-point drubbing of NAIA-opponent York. The Mavericks average just a touch under 70 points per game while shooting .444 for the year. Omaha has limited opponents to 61.9 points per game. The Jags are 6-3 lifetime against the Mavericks, having last faced the team in the Summit League Tournament opening round last season. The teams split the regular season series, before the Jags lost to the Mavs 51-62 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
