BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The IUPUI women's tennis team (0-2) will be back in action this weekend (Jan. 27-28) as the team is slated to play a pair of dual-meets against Bowling Green (0-1) Friday, followed by a dual with Western Michigan (2-2) Saturday.
Looking to improve on a flat opening weekend in which the team could muster just one singles win over two dual-meets, the Jags venture to Ohio against a Bowling Green team that was flattened in their opening dual against Ohio State. The Falcons went 2-19 a season ago, including a 0-8 record in the Mid-American Conference. The Jags faced the Falcons last season (Feb. 14, 2016), topping the eastern foes 4-3. IUPUI failed to take the doubles point, but picked up four singles victories to escape with the win.
The Saturday bout with Western Michigan features a Broncos team that started the season with a combined 13-1 score across two dual victories against Oakland and Valparaiso. Last weekend on the road (Jan. 21-22), the Broncos were blanked in road meets with Indiana and Notre Dame. A 19-8 team from a season ago, the Jags last faced the Broncos during the 2013-14 season, in which IUPUI was shutout 0-7.
The lone victory for IUPUI during the spring season came in singles play, as
Valeriia Lavrenchuk picked up a win at the No. 1 spot against Wright State (Jan. 21).
