CINCINNATI, Ohio – The IUPUI women's tennis team will officially begin the spring 2017 season Friday (Jan. 20) when the team heads east to face Cincinnati at 5 p.m. EST. The Lady Jags are coming off a 7-16 overall record from a season ago, in which the team had a 2-4 mark in Summit League play. Although they missed making the tournament, the Jags had plenty of positive outcomes in which to build off of moving into the future. Featuring a young roster with just one senior, the Jags made history this preseason by landing their first-ever ranked player in singles.
Marina Schneiger was ranked the 111th best singles player in NCAA Division I tennis, and is one of four juniors heading into their third season.
The Bearcats went 12-11 during the 2016 spring campaign, advancing to the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championship after topping Temple 4-2 in Memphis, Tennessee (April 20). The team had three sweeps of opponents last season, in addition to three meets in which they dropped just a single match. With four seniors on the roster, Cincinnati boasts an experienced crew for the third season under Eric Toth.
Wright State had a tremendous season last year, as the Raiders posted a 20-9 overall record. The team went 5-4 in the Horizon League, and saw their season end in a heartbreaking 2-4 loss to Youngstown State in the finals of the Horizon League Tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This season, the Raiders boast six seniors on a tremendously talented roster, with just one freshman addition.
