INDIANAPOLIS - The early conference struggles continue for the Jaguars, who fell today in both games of a double header to North Dakota State. The Jags could not make up early deficits in either game in extremely windy conditions.
North Dakota State 14 - IUPUI 2
With the wind blowing out for most of the day well over 25 miles per hour, the Bison took advantage in the first inning clubbing a two-run home run to left field to get the scoring started. North Dakota State (20-12, 2-0 Summit) added another run in the first inning to chase Jag starter
Nickole Finch from the game.
The Bison continued the scoring adding two more in the third and fourth innings before IUPUI (10-20, 0-4 Summit) got a hit against NDSU starter Jacquelyn Sertic. In the bottom of the fourth
Ali Mosier ripped a home run to left field to lead off the inning. After a
Taylor Chitwood walk,
Maggie Good doubled to right center field to bring home Chitwood and give the Jags two runs. That was all Sertic would allow for the Jags who finished with just three hits on the game.
North Dakota State got those two runs back in the top of the fifth and added five more in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
North Dakota State 8 - IUPUI 3
The second game of the day did not start much better for the Jags. The Bison put their first run on the board in the first inning and got to starter
Brooke Boetjer in inning number two. In part to a costly error and a couple of illegal pitch calls, the Bison hung four on the board in the second. A wild pitch in the third brought home NDSU's sixth run of the game before the Jags go on the board.
In the bottom of the fourth Ali Mosier was hit by a pitch to start the inning and a double to the right center field wall by Taylor Chitwood brought home Mosier. In the bottom of the sixth, a Mosier walk was followed by a Chitwood home run to make the score 7-3 but North Dakota State's pitching again held IUPUI to just three hits on the day.
Game three of the series is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m.
