INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI's bats were shut down again by North Dakota State's Jacquelyn Sertic as the Jags finished with three hits in a 9-1 loss in five innings.
The lone highlight for the Jags (10-21, 0-5 Summit) came in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Ali Mosier took Sertic deep for the second time this series. Mosier's solo home run to left field was her team leading seventh long ball of the season.
Morgan Schlobohm's single in the first, and
Maggie Good's double in the second inning were the only two other hits the Jags earned on the day.
North Dakota State (21-12, 3-0 Summit) got things started early, as they did the whole series. A hit batter with the bases loaded by starter
Kaitlynn Moody got the scoring started for the Bison. A three-run home run in the top of the second inning increased the lead to 4-0.
Nickole Finch came on in relief but the Bison kept things going with a two-run home run off of Finch in the third. The lead became 8-0 in the top of the fourth when the Jags looked like they were going to get out of the inning but a fly ball to center field was dropped and allowed two runs to score.
Mosier's home run brought the deficit to seven runs but in the top of the fifth North Dakota State scored when
Roni Patterson had the ball slip out of her hand on a throw to third and the ball went in to left field to bring home a runner to make it 9-1 and bring the run rule in to play.
The Jags are back in action on Tuesday, April 5, when they head north to South Bend, Ind., to take on Notre Dame at 5 pm.
