Full Results (.html)HINSDALE, Ill. - The IUPUI men's tennis team's season-long trend of coming up on the wrong end of tight decisions continued on Saturday (Mar. 5) as the Jaguars fell at UIC, 4-3 inside Hinsdale Racquet Club. On Saturday, IUPUI (3-14) was swept in doubles play before sweeping the six singles match in defeat.
UIC (5-6) made quick work of the doubles point, cruising in all three matches, dropping just five games total in capturing the evening's initial point.
However, singles was another story as all six matches were hotly contested.
Akshay Verma pulled the Jags even at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles, just ahead of teammate
David Beasley's victory at No. 2. Beasley rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 straight sets victory, giving the Jags a lead, albeit brief. UIC's Carl Hedstrom knocked off
Jac Newis at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-2 to knot the match.
The Jags went ahead when
Kyle Whittaker finished off a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 5 singles, leaving two courts in action with IUPUI clinging to a 3-2 lead. However, UIC's Mitch Granger picked off
Marcus Nalley 6-1, 7-6 at the No. 4 spot, leaving the verdict up to the No. 6 players. UIC made the most of it as Max Cedarkall edged IUPUI freshman
Patrick McAuley 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
IUPUI's rigorous schedule will continue next weekend when the Jaguars head south to play Louisville on Mar. 11 at 10:00 a.m..
