HINSDALE, Ill. - The IUPUI men's tennis team will step away from conference play this weekend, playing UIC on Saturday night (Mar. 5) at 7:00 p.m. Eastern inside Hinsdale Racquet Club. UIC comes in at 3-6 overall while the Jaguars are now 3-13.
Head Coach Brandon Currie's squad is fresh off a 7-0 romp of Summit League foe Western Illinois, snapping an 11-game skid. The Jaguars coasted in their league opener as freshman
Patrick McAuley was ultimately named Summit Player of the Week.
All six IUPUI singles players earned straight set victories, led by
Jac Newis (No. 1),
Bradley Luetschwager (No. 2) and
David Beasley (No. 3) at the top of the lineup. McAuley earned the league's weekly award on the strength of his 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 and he and
Matt Moe's 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
For the spring season, Beasley has a team-high five singles wins while McAuley has four victories, primarily at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
Marcus Nalley has three wins to his credit and nine different players have collected at least one singles victory.
In doubles play, Beasley and
Akshay Verma have been the Jaguars' top tandem at 5-5, while McAuley and Moe also have five victories. Beasley has a team-high six doubles victories, also collecting a win while teamed with
Jose Calero.
IUPUI lost to UIC by a 4-3 score last season. Seniors
Alex Toliver and
Adam Reinhart accounted for two of the Jags' points, while Beasley was victorious at No. 4 singles.
