ATHENS, Ga. - The IUPUI men's golf team shot a 36-hole 634 (327-307) to place 13th of 14 teams at Monday's (Mar. 14) Southern Intercollegiate Championships at Athens Country Club. Senior Rylan Porter led the way with an 11-over 155 (81-74) and classmate Austin Winings carded a 156 (78-78) for the day.

No. 2 Georgia won the team title, shooting 20-under 556 and No. 27 Arkansas was second at 17-under 559. Liberty (579), Furman (584) and Kennesaw State (590) rounded out the field's top five finishers. Individually, Arkansas standout Nicolas Echavarria and Georgia's Greyson Sigg, ranked No. 31 nationally, tied for medalist honors at 7-under 137.

After a woeful first round by his standards, Porter rebounded with a solid second 18 in the afternoon. He opened his second round with a birdie on the par-5 No. 10 and was 2-under through five holes. He closed his first nine at 2-under before shooting 40 on his final nine of the day to close at 74.

Winings began his second round with an eagle on No. 10, his second of the day on the hole, but immediately gave it back with back-to-back bogeys on 11 and 12. He later made birdie on 14 and was 2-over at the turn. His final nine was a bit of a roller coaster as he mixed six bogeys with two birdies and a par to finish at 78. Senior Tyler Davis ended his tournament at 159 (83-76) and Jackson Juerling shot 164 (85-79) in his spring debut.

Jay Holderman rounded out the group at 168 (86-82).

IUPUI was last among the field with just 77 pars and made 20 birdies on the day as both Davis and Winings had five apiece. Winings was one of just two players in the 78-man field to make a pair of eagles on the day.

The Jaguars will remain south to practice this week before returning to Indianapolis to compete in the Butler Spring Invitational at Prestwick Country Club to begin next week.
