IOWA CITY, Iowa – Still trying to right the ship from a tough stretch of losses, the IUPUI men's tennis team (2-12) will return to the road as they'll make stops in Iowa City, Iowa and Macomb, Ill., to face Iowa(5-2) and Western Illinois(0-6). The matchup with Western Illinois will be the first Summit League action for the Jags' this season.
After starting the season 2-2, the Jaguars have now dropped 10 straight meets, a stretch that started back on Jan. 22 in a loss to Marquette. Most recently, the Jags are coming off losses to Xavier (Feb. 20) and Michigan State (Feb. 21) on back-to-back days with final tallies of 1-6 and 0-7, respectively.
Kyle Whittaker provided the lone win on the weekend for IUPUI, as the freshman picked up the point in a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) victory at the five spot. A week removed from Summit League Player of the Week recognition,
David Beasley lost both singles and doubles matches, including a heartbreaking defeat at Michigan State in the three spot. After splitting sets, Beasley lost the tiebreaker, 11-9.
After playing their last four meets on the road, the Jags' face another four-meet stretch away from Indianapolis before they return to the safe confines of the West Indy Racquet Club on March 26. The team's last victory came on Jan. 22 against Cardinal Stritch in Milwaukee, Wis., with the final tally of 4-3.
Iowa is 5-2 this season, having most recently come off a victory against Wichita State (4-3). Their matchup with IUPUI is the first of two on the day, as they will play host to Denver in the nightcap. The Hawkeyes are winners of four of their last five, dropping only a road contest to Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 14.
Western Illinois is still looking for its first victory of the season, going 0-6 after a pair of losses to SIU-Edwardsville and Northern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 20). The Leatherneck's closest contest of the 2015-16 season was a 1-6 loss at home against Illinois-Springfield. They've failed to pick up a point in their last three meets leading into the Saturday matchup with the Jags'.
