Full Results (.html)CINCINNATI, Ohio - The IUPUI men's tennis team dropped another road decision on Saturday night (Feb. 20), falling at Xavier inside Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club, 6-1. The loss dropped the Jaguars to 2-11 on the season while Xavier climbed to 5-2 on the young season.
Xavier coasted to a three-match sweep in doubles with the tightest match coming at the top spot in the lineup. The IUPUI duo of
Bradley Luetschwager and
Kyle Whittaker pushed Xavier's top tandem before falling by a 7-5 score.
In singles play, Whittaker was the lone IUPUI player to earn a point, collecting a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win at the No. 5 spot to improve to 2-2 this spring. Xavier's Zach Mueck defeated Luetschwager at the No. 1 spot while XU's Trent Smith coasted past
Patrick McAuley at No. 6 to give the Musketeers a 3-0 lead. The hosts claimed the match when Matt Bishop defeated IUPUI sophomore
David Beasley at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Jac Newis and
Akshay Verma also lost their singles matches at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively.
With the loss, the Jaguars' current skid reached nine straight. The Jaguars non-conference slate will continue on Sunday night (Feb. 21) when IUPUI plays at Michigan State at 6:00 p.m. in East Lansing.
