INDIANAPOLIS - Even after winning the doubles point, the IUPUI men's tennis team couldn't carry the momentum over to singles play as the Jaguars dropped a 5-2 home decision to University of Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 13).
Freshman
Patrick McAuley was the lone IUPUI (2-8) player to earn a singles victory, doing so at the No. 6 spot.
IUPUI made quick work of the doubles point as
Kyle Whittaker and
Bradley Luetschwager coasted to a 6-3 win at No. 1 and
David Beasley and
Akshay Verma won at No. 2, 6-2. The Jaguars' most successful tandem this spring, McAuley and
Matt Moe, were knotted in a 4-4 match when play was stopped.
However, in singles play, UIndy (2-1) won five of the six contests, three of which went a full three sets.
Verma lost a split set 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles to UIndy's Luke Hubert while
Jose Calero lost at No. 5, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Marco Razo. McAuley was victorious in a three set affair, beating Andrea Morlet 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
The loss was the Jaguars' sixth straight after opening the spring 2-2. The Jaguars will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 14) when they play road matches at Saint Louis and SIU Edwardsville.
