IUPUI (16-7, 7-3) at North Dakota State (6-18, 1-10)

Live StatsVideoAudioPreviewOn the brink of a record-breaking season, the IUPUI women's basketball team (16-7, 7-3) could soon etch some names in the record books. A golden opportunity awaits as the Jags head West for a three-game road trip in the midst of a three-game win streak. The trio of road games starts this Friday (Feb. 12) with North Dakota State (6-18, 1-10). Tip is slated for 8 p.m. ET in Fargo, N.D.Â
In the last three games, IUPUI sophomore guard
Danielle Lawrence is averaging 27.0 points per game. Her 23- and 24-point performances helped IUPUI edge Denver and Oral Roberts in tight contests. Then Lawrence dropped a career-high 34 in a shootout with Western Illinois. During those three contests, she racked up back-to-back Summit League Player of the Week awards in three straight wins. With three total Summit League weekly honors, Lawrence joins Jernisha Cann ('09) as the only Jags to win the award three times in a season.Â
The good news for the Jags, and the bad news for the rest of the Summit League, is that IUPUI's balanced offense is still balanced. Junior center
Mikale Rogers has been averaging 15.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game in Summit League play. Senior forward
Akilah Sims scored a season-high 23 points against Western Illinois after battling an injury for much of the conference season. The preseason First-Team All-Summit League selection had played limited minutes and hadn't scored in double figures since Jan. 3 against Oral Roberts.Â
The Jags–getting hot at the right time–turn their focus to a three-game road trip consisting of three teams they defeated earlier in the season. First, the focus is on North Dakota State this Friday (Feb. 12) as IUPUI looks to sweep the Bison this season. The Jags handled NDSU 67-44 in their first meeting in Indianapolis on Jan. 16.
Rogers carried IUPUI in the first meeting with 19 points and eight rebounds but the balanced Jaguar offense was evident as 11 of 12 IUPUI players scored in the game.Â
The Jags held NDSU's two primary scorers in check in the first meeting as well. IUPUI stifled senior guard Marena Whittle, the leading scorer for the Bison, holding her to just four points on a 2-for-11 shooting night. NDSU's second offensive weapon, Taylor Thunstedt, scored 14 in the game but IUPUI forced her into eight turnovers as the Jags won comfortably by 23.
IUPUI sits in fourth place in the Summit League just a half game behind Oral Roberts while South Dakota and South Dakota State hold the top two spots. NDSU rests at the bottom of the conference with a 1-10 mark in conference play.
Notable AchievementsÂ
As for the upcoming records, there's a few noteworthy accomplishments for the IUPUI squad.Â
Senior forward Akilah Sims jumped to 977 career points with her 23-point outing last weekend. She's just 23 points away from reaching the 1,000-point club and joining an elite group of IUPUI standouts.Â
Head Coach
Austin Parkinson tied former IUPUI coach Kris Simpson with the most home victories (61) in the program's history after the Jags' 96-87 win over Western Illinois last Saturday (Feb. 6). With 91 total wins, Parkinson is just six away (Simpson, 97 wins) from becoming the winningest coach in IUPUI women's basketball history.Â
