INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's golf team posted a final round 299 and leapfrogged host Butler to cap off a second-place finish at this week's Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Golf and Country Club. The Jaguars finished the 36-hole tournament at 606 (307-299), trailing only Indianapolis (592) in the standings.
Butler was third at 613, followed by Marian (625) and Chicago State (637).
Senior
Erin Ingram led three Jags to earn top-10 finishes at 146 (72-74), tying for fourth of 46 players.
Aneta Abrahamova and
MeKenzie Hilsmeyer both closed at 151 to tie for eighth overall.
"I'm not upset we finished second," IUPUI Head Coach
John Andrews said. "We got beat by a team that's better than us right now and now we've got to find a way to get better between now and the spring.
"My expectations for my top three players are really high. It was good to see Ingram post a number yesterday. She did a really good job this week."
"Today was a great day for the team," Ingram said. "We played pretty well and I'm so happy we could come back a little and finish second.
"Personally, I would've liked to finish stronger. Two doubles, a birdie and two pars in my last five holes was a rough way to finish, especially when I was looking for a first-place finish. But, I'm extremely pleased with the progress I've made since the Ball State tournament. This tournament is always fun to play in and I'm happy we played well."
Ingram and Hilsmeyer both recorded final round 74's while Abrahamova finished with a 75 on Tuesday. Sophomore
Elizabeth Orr capped the scoring quartet with a 76 to end her tournament at 158. Classmate
Lindsey Hackleman shot 164 (82-82) for the week.
Senior
Lindsey Budnik led the Jaguars' five 'B' team entries at 161 (78-83) and
Nicole Toledano shot 166 (84-82).
UIndy's Paxton DeHaven collected medalist honors at 143 and two other Greyhounds tied for second at 144.
The Jaguars will cap the fall with entries in the Memphis Women's Fall Intercollegiate and Dayton Fall Invite. Both tournaments will run from Oct. 17-18.
