TOLEDO, Ohio - The early season struggles continued for the Jags with a 5-2 loss to Toledo Sunday afternoon (Jan. 31). The loss ended a three-game road trip for IUPUI that saw the Jags get swept by three Ohio teams.
Toledo (2-5) got off to a strong start in doubles with Vince Anzalone and Stjepan Sisko beating
Kyle Whittaker and
Jose Calero 6-2 in the No. 1 match. The Rockets took the doubles point after Stephen Miller and Serjen Olmedo knocked off
Patrick McAuley and
Matt Moe 7-5. The No. 2 match featuring
David Beasley and
Akshay Verma was tied 6-6 but remained unfinished.
In singles matches the Rockets cruised to straight set victories in the first four matches to give Toledo the match win. IUPUI (2-6) got on the board after the match had been decided in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches that both went to three sets.
Calero lost his first set before battling back and knocking off Miller 4-6, 6-2, 11-9, and in the No. 6 spot, McAuley also lost his first set but bounced back with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 win over Reid Teatsorth.
After playing six straight matches on the road and going 1-5, the Jags will look to turn things around at home when they host Valparaiso on Saturday (Feb. 6) with the match scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
