Full Results WESTLAKE, Ohio - IUPUI men's tennis fell to Cleveland State 6-1 on Friday afternoon (Jan. 29) at Paramount Tennis Club, to open up a three-game road trip in the state of Ohio. The Jags' (2-4) lone point came from
Akshay Verma.
Cleveland State took the first doubles match with a 6-2 victory over the No. 3 team of
Patrick McAuley and
Matt Moe. The Vikings won the doubles point with a 7-5 win over
Jose Calero and
Kyle Whittaker at the No. 1 spot. The No. 2 match featuring
David Beasley and Verma was tied at six but did not finish.
In the singles matches, victories from Cleveland State over sophomore
Jac Newis (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2 and junior
Marcus Nalley (6-3, 6-2) at No. 3, gave the Vikings a 3-0 match lead.Â
Verma, a junior from Alpharetta, Ga., got the Jags on the board and kept the match alive with a 7-5, 6-1 victory in his match at the No. 4 spot. With the win, Verma moved to 2-1 on the season in singles play.
Cleveland State closed out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 against Calero. With the match decided, the Vikings added two more points in two three set victories. At No. 1, Beasley fell to his opponent by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and McAuley fell at No. 6, 7-6, 2-6, 3-10.Â
The Jags will be back in action as they head to Dayton to take on the Flyers with the match scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
