CLEVELAND – The IUPUI men's tennis team takes to the road for three matches over the weekend in the Buckeye State. The Jags take on Cleveland State Friday (Jan. 29), Dayton on Saturday (Jan. 30) and finish in Toledo against the Rockets on Sunday (Jan. 31).
After splitting two duals last weekend with a 4-3 win against Cardinal Stritch and a loss to Marquette, the Jags look to get back on track when they travel to Cleveland to play 2-0 Cleveland State at the Paramount Tennis Club. The Vikings won their first two matches against Duquesne (4-3) and Tiffin (5-2) last Saturday (Jan. 23). The match with the Vikings is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
Last season, the Jags lost to Cleveland State in Indianapolis 6-1.
On Saturday, the Jags will head to Dayton to take on the Flyers at Five Seasons. Dayton comes in to the match at 2-2 with losses to #36 Louisville (4-2) and #10 Ohio State (4-0). The Flyers' wins have come against Wright State and Youngstown State. This is another rematch from last year, when IUPUI lost in a close match 4-3.
The Jags finish up the weekend with a trip to Toledo to take on the 0-4 Rockets. Toledo has two matches before taking on IUPUI as they host Youngstown State on Saturday and Green Bay on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. before hosting the Jags at 3:00 p.m. IUPUI and Dayton also met last year, with the match being won by the Jags 4-3.
Early this season IUPUI has been led by sophomore
David Beasley on the singles side. Beasley has a 3-2 record in singles matches in the five duals played so far.
On the doubles side,
Patrick McAuley and
Matt Moe have been the most successful team for the Jags with a 2-2 record.
