MILWAUKEE - After splitting their first two matches, the IUPUI men's tennis team heads to Milwaukee for three matches against Wisconsin schools. The Jags will take on Green Bay, Thursday (Jan. 21) before a double header with Cardinal Stritch and Marquette on Friday (Jan. 22).
The Jags (1-1) opened the season with a 7-0 loss to Purdue (Jan. 16) but bounced back later that day with a 5-2 victory over Chicago State. IUPUI will look to ride that momentum in to their match with Green Bay, a team who has yet to play a match this season.
The last time IUPUI took on the Phoenix was in 2014, a match that the Jags lost 4-3. Since 2010 IUPUI has played Green Bay four times, falling in all four contests. The match with Green Bay is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
On Friday, the Jags will play a double header against two Milwaukee schools. At 10:00 a.m., IUPUI will face Cardinal Stritch and then the Jags take on Marquette at 6:00 p.m.
Cardinal Stritch will be playing their first match of the season when they host IUPUI. The Jags have one two straight matches against the Wolves, including a 6-1 victory last season. Against Stritch last season sophomore
David Beasley won both his doubles and singles match, while fellow sophomore
Jac Newis won his singles match.
Marquette is also opening their season when they take on IUPUI and have controlled the series with the Jags as of late. The Golden Eagles have won five straight matches against IUPUI including a 7-0 sweep last season.
In the win against Chicago State, the top of the Jags lineup took care of business winning the top three singles matches. Newis won his match at #1 in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, (10-6), while Beasley and junior
Akshay Verma both swept their singles matches.
