INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's basketball team (10-4, 1-0) will look to win their third game in just five days as the Jags host conference opponent Oral Roberts (3-10, 0-1) on Sunday (Jan. 3) at 2 p.m. inside The Jungle.Â
IUPUI trails the all-time series with ORU 12-18. The Jags split games with the Golden Eagles a year ago as ORU won the first meeting in Tulsa 72-84 before the Jags owned ORU in Indianapolis, 82-52.Â
IUPUI alternated wins and losses through much of December but the Jags have gotten back to their winning ways with victories over Evansville (68-62) and Fort Wayne (69-50) this week. Their balanced offense has turned into a three-dimensional scoring unit as senior
Akilah Sims, junior
Mikale Rogers and sophomore
Danielle Lawrence have been pouring in double figure nights on a regular basis. The trio are all averaging in double figures this season with Sims leading the way at 13.2 points per game. Lawrence is averaging 11.9 while Rogers is contributed 11.2 per night.Â
The Jags have seen a number of different guards come up big on separate occasions. Sophomore
Martha Burse and senior
Shaquira Scott have each had big nights, but the recent rising contributor has been junior
Caitlyn Tolen. Tolen stepped up in Sims' absence against Evansville with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. She came off the bench with effective numbers against Fort Wayne as well, finishing the game with nine points, three assists and three steals.
The Jags face an overlooked Oral Roberts team who boast just a 3-10 record. The Golden Eagles have lost nine of their last 10 games but their lone win came against Big 12 foe Kansas (70-63) in December. The closest loss in that 10-game spell was another Big 12 opponent in Oklahoma State (59-55). The Golden Eagles have three scoring in double figures as well with Bria Pitts, Kaylan Mayberry and Faith Ihim at 10.6, 10.4 and 10.2 per game, respectively.Â
Sunday's game is set for 2 p.m. at The Jungle. IUPUI's Scott Agness will have the call just prior to tipoff. Sunday is Everyone's a Student night at IUPUI. Be a student and wear IUPUI gear for free admission to Sunday's game.Â
