INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – IUPUI men's soccer will host Western Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 6) at 1 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Sunday's match is the second of a three-game home stand for the Jags.
IUPUI (0-1-1) comes into Sunday's contest after losing a tough one in OT against Indianapolis rival Butler (2-0-0) on Tuesday night. The Jags equalized twice after being down 1-0 and 2-1 only to get beat in the 3rd minute of OT by a score of 3-2.
The Jags' first goal of the evening came off the left foot of sophomore
Emmanuel Usen for his first goal of the 2015 campaign. The second Jaguar equalizer was a penalty kick opportunity that was struck home by senior captain
Clint Hoffar. The PK was the result of a Butler handball in the 71st minute and was Hoffar's second in two games this season.
The Jags showed resiliency in Tuesday's match despite the result. They were outshot 17-8 but IUPUI senior keeper
Eduardo Cortes recorded six saves, delaying the Butler attack as he waited for goal support.
The Jags now look forward to the Broncos of Western Michigan (2-0-0) in an afternoon (1 p.m.) contest on Sunday. Western Michigan boasts an undefeated record this fall, including wins against Marshall (2-1) and IPFW (1-0).
Sunday's match will be the feature of IUPUI's
Alumni Day, which will include an alumni scrimmage before the game, a cookout, and a team fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings following the contest.
