Round #3 Tee Times (.pdf)SEASIDE, Calif. - The IUPUI women's golf team shot a second round 336 at The Summit League Championships on Tuesday (Apr. 21), slipping from fifth to seventh heading into Wednesday's final round at Bayonet Golf Course. Sophomore
Erin Ingram paced IUPUI with an 8-over 80 and is tied with freshman
Aneta Abrahamova for 17th-place among the 45-player field.
No. 45 Denver leads the tournament by eight strokes at 619 and South Dakota State and Oral Roberts are tied for second at 627. IUPUI sits at 665 (329-336) and trails Omaha by 11 shots and South Dakota by six. Wednesday's final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. Pacific (11 Eastern) as the Jaguars will be paired with Western Illinois and Fort Wayne.
"Obviously, it's a tough golf course but we've got to play better. Other teams are playing a hard course better than we are," IUPUI Head Coach
John Andrews said. "Our job is to go out and play better. I've seen some good shots, but just not good scores. Usually the two go hand-in-hand, but that hasn't been the case."
The Jaguars got off to a slow start and never got comfortable on Tuesday as Ingram made the team's lone birdie on the front nine. Four of the five Jags made double bogey on the par-4, 357-yard second hole and the Jags have yet to make a par of the second in two days. Ingram made birdie on No. 3 to get back to 3-over, but followed with a double on No. 4. After sitting at 6-over at the turn, Ingram added a pair of birdies on the back nine to close at 80.
"Two is a hard hole, there's no doubt about it," Andrews said. "We played 16 better today, so I think we'll play two better tomorrow."
Abrahamova finished day two with an 81, including making six straight pars at one point. Sophomore
MeKenzie Hilsmeyer shot 86 with seven pars in round two and senior
Kelli Witt turned in an 89.
Freshman
Sara Saetre rounded out the group at 91.
"I'd love for us to be in a better position, but the scores are what they are," Andrews said. "I really hope they play better tomorrow. Kelli's last round is tomorrow, so hopefully she plays better and finishes on a high note."
ORU's Paola Aviles sits atop the leaderboard at 7-over 151 (74-77) and holds a one-shot lead on the field.
