INDIANAPOLIS – Three singles matches went the way of the IUPUI men's tennis team and three went the way of UIC, but it was the Flames who came away with the decisive doubles point to defeat the Jaguars, 4-3, Friday night at the West Indy Racquet Club.
 
The loss dropped the Jags to 6-12 on the season, while UIC improved to 4-8.
 
In each of its last three matches, the Jags had taken the early lead over its opponent thanks to strong doubles play, but the Flames were able to take the top two doubles matches by scores of 6-3 and 6-4, respectively, to jump out to the 1-0 lead.
 
In singles play, five of the six matches were decided in straight sets with UIC winning three of those contests at the No. 1, 5 and 6 positions.
 
IUPUI dominated in the middle of the lineup with Adam Reinhart and David Beasley winning 1 and 0 and 3 and 1, respectively.
 
The most competitive match of the night came at the No. 2 position between Alex Toliver and Christopher Cole. Toliver took the first set, 6-4, before Cole rallied for a 7-5 win in set two to force a third-set breaker. Despite having the momentum, Cole could not finish off the come-from-behind win as Toliver regained his form from the opening set en route to winning the tiebreaker, 10-3.
 
IUPUI moves into Summit League play on Saturday, March 28, when it hosts South Dakota State at the West Indy Racquet Club at Noon ET.
