Regardless some noteworthy performances did occur. Junior
Miguel Lozano set a new outdoor 3,000m school record with his time of 8:40.49. Another noteworthy performance was
Damon Pruett running 8:43.17, just missing his PR after coming off of a breakthrough race the night before.
"I'm disappointed from my performance today, but you got to roll with the punches and get ready for the next meet," said Lozano.
The men's 4x800 also flashed some pace and flare, however they failed to eclipse the 8-minute barrier with their time of 8:00.73.
"I thought (Hubner) gave us a solid leg with a 1:57 split. It's good to see him have back-to-back decent races early on. Hopefully this is the start of a big season for him," IUPUI Head Coach
Chuck Koeppen said. "Overall today wasn't the best, however most of the guys competed well last night and today was a quick turn around.
We wanted to focus on day two on having fun and breaking off some rust after indoors. This is the best squad we have ever had here. They are going to surprise people in a few weeks." Â
Head Coach
Antonio McDaniel's team loaded up for only the 4x800 on the second day and ran 9:30.32 to get a two-second victory over in-state rival Indiana Tech. Â
"I was pretty happy with how I preformed, especially since I was by myself the whole time. It was just great to get a win with the girls," freshman Lauren Ousterhout said.
The big win capped off a successful opener in the early going of the outdoor season. The Jags were pleased with their performance, but will look to build forward in the outdoor season.
McDaniel has one of the youngest squads in the NCAA with 14 of the 24 members of the team being true freshman. These early meets will focus on gaining experience and rhythm moving deeper into the season,

The men's team will compete next week in Cincinnati at the Oliver Nikoloff Invite as a bit of a homecoming for Xavier-transfer
Tom Ohlman. The women will next head to Vanderbilt to continue their outdoor campaign.
