DENVER - A two-game road trip begins for IUPUI this week when it travels to Denver, Colo., to take on the Denver Pioneers.

GAMEDAY INFORMATION
  • Wednesday's game is set to begin at 9 p.m. ET at Magness Arena.
  • Fans can access live stats through IUPUIJags.com, or pay a fee for live streaming through DenverPioneers.com.

ABOUT DENVER
  • Wednesday's meeting between IUPUI and Denver will be the second meeting between the two schools in 13 days.
  • The Pioneers have dropped three of their last four falling to 7-15 overall and 4-4 in the Summit League.
  • However, Denver has been tough at home posting a 3-1 record in conference action at Magness Arena.
  • Collectively, Denver is scoring 61.5 ppg on the season and it is led in scoring by Paige Bradley and Morgan Van Riper-Rose. Bradley leads the way with 12.7 ppg, while Van Riper-Rose adds 10.6 ppg.
  • Denver ranks third in the conference in three-pointers made and three-pointers attempted per game at 7.1 and 21.0, respectively.
  • In Summit League-only games, the Pioneers are shooting 38.4 percent from three, which ranks second, and they are also effective at the line hitting a league-best 77.1 percent from the stripe.

THE SERIES WITH THE PIONEERS
  • Thanks to a 17-point win at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Jan. 22, IUPUI extended its lead in the series between the two schools to 4-2.
  • The Jaguars are 1-0 all-time playing in Denver after earning a 68-55 win last season.

LAST TIME OUT ...
  • Two weeks ago, IUPUI traveled to Omaha without the services of Nevena Markovic and Akilah Sims and the Mavericks handed the Jaguars a 17-point defeat. Saturday afternoon, Sims and Markovic combined for 25 points and 12 rebounds propelling IUPUI to a 68-49 win over the Mavericks at The Jungle.
  • The Jags improved to 10-12 overall and 5-4 in the Summit League, while Omaha fell to 6-15 overall and 1-8 in conference action. Sims led the way with 14 points, and she was joined in double figures by Markovic (11), Mikale Rogers (11), and Shaquira Scott (10). The 14-point effort for Sims marked her fourth consecutive double-figure performance.
  • As it has done for most of the season, IUPUI dominated the glass winning the battle of the boards 38-22, led by Sims' seven. The work on the glass led to 13 offensive rebounds resulting in a 12-2 edge in second-chance points.
  • Coming off a poor shooting performance on Thursday at Western Illinois, the Jags hit 55 percent of their shots over the first 10-plus minutes, but six turnovers kept Omaha within striking distance at 17-8 despite the strong start.
  • Over the next six minutes, IUPUI extended its lead to 30-12 by getting the ball inside. Rogers scored four points during the stretch and Scott, Sims and Danielle Lawrence added baskets in the paint to fuel the 13-4 spurt.
  • Omaha responded with an 8-2 run to make it a 12-point game with just under a minute to play, but Scott hit a jumper to fall with 33 seconds to go, before a Rogers lay-up with under a second to play sent the Jags into the break with a 36-20 cushion.
  • The Jaguars scored the first six points of the second half to open a 22-point lead, but a 7-0 Mavericks response forced head coach Austin Parkinson to use a timeout. Unfortunately, the Omaha run didn't stop there as Mikaela Shaw got a jumper to go before hitting one of two free throws to shrink its deficit to 42-30 with 14:24 to go.
  • Omaha closed within 11 at 46-35, but a 9-2 IUPUI run capped by a Sims three guided the Jaguars lead back to 18, 55-37, by the under-eight media timeout.
  • By the 5:23 mark, IUPUI pushed its lead back to 20 on a Sims fast-break lay-up, and from that point it finished off a 68-49 victory.

SCORING IN BUNCHES
  • Since returning from injury on Jan. 22, against Denver, Akilah Sims has turned into IUPUI's most effective scorer.
  • Beginning with the game against the Pioneers, Sims scored 12 points in 12 minutes, while dishing out a career-high tying four assists to help the Jags earn a 17-point win.
  • She followed that with a 17-point effort in a convincing 25-point win over Summit League leader South Dakota.
  • The scoring production went up another notch against Western Illinois on Jan. 29 when she scored a career-high tying 20 points.
  • Sims then recorded her fourth straight double-figure scoring performance posting 14 points in a win over Omaha on Jan. 31.
  • Over the last four games, Sims is averaging 15.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 2.3 apg, while shooting 52.5 percent from the floor and 53.3 percent from three.
  • In Summit League play, Sims leads the Jaguars in scoring at 13.5 ppg.

LAWRENCE BEGINNING TO EMERGE
  • Freshman point guard Danielle Lawrence got off to a slow start this season averaging 3.6 ppg and 2.9 turnovers per game through the first 19 games.
  • Over the last three games, however, last year's Kentucky Sweet 16 MVP has started to emerge for the Jags.
  • Since Jan. 24, Lawrence is averaging 8.3 ppg, and she has been most effective at scoring from the free throw line.
  • Lawrence has got to the line 17 times over the last three contests and converted 13 of those tries (76.5%).
  • The most impressive stat for the point guard over the last three games is that her turnovers have dropped drastically as she has committed just three in 80 minutes of action.
