VideoAudioLive StatsINDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's basketball team plays host to Indiana State Tuesday (Dec. 1) with the tip scheduled for 7 p.m. The Jags (4-1) will look to win their fifth straight game of the season when they take on the Sycamores (2-5).
Indiana State leads the all-time series against the Jags 9-3. The last three seasons have seen tight matchups between the two programs. Indiana State edged IUPUI last season 61-60 in The Jungle. The Jags won the previous two meetings (2012 and 2013) by four points apiece, including a 71-67 win at home and a 68-64 win in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Jags come into the matchup having won four straight games after a season-opening loss to Eastern Illinois, 77-71 (OT). In their last win against IU Southeast (99-50), IUPUI was led by senior
Akilah Sims with 20 points on 9-12 shooting, including 2-3 from three-point range. Freshman
Allex Brown led IUPUI with 13 rebounds and junior
Mikale Rogers posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.
Rogers and Sims are number one and two in both major categories for the Jags this season. Sims, the Preseason Summit League First-Team selection, is the team's runner up in points (11.8) and rebounds (5.2) per game. Rogers, reigning Summit League Player of the Week, boasts team-highs in points (12.0) and rebounds (7.8).
The Sycamores lost their last game 71-62 to Stephen F. Austin last Saturday (Nov. 28) but won their last contest on the road, beating UMKC 77-47 on Nov. 27.
Indiana State is led on offense by senior guard Cierra Ceazer who is averaging 13.6 points per game on the season, including a team-high 18 in the loss to Stephen F. Austin. Junior guard Joyea Marshall is the only other player in double figures for the Sycamores averaging 10.1 ppg. Marshall also leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 rpg.
Tuesday's (Dec. 1) game will also be Summit League Food Fight Night. Fans who bring a food donation will receive $5 off the price of their ticket. Collected food items will be donated to Paw's Pantry supporting those on the IUPUI campus community in need of food assistance.
